Application of titanium in medicine:
1. As a new material, titanium has been used for decades in the pharmaceutical industry, surgical instruments, human implants and other fields in China and the world, and has achieved great success.
2. The requirements for implant materials can be classified into three aspects: biocompatibility of materials with human body, corrosion resistance of materials in human environment and mechanical properties of materials.
3. For bone and joint injuries caused by trauma and tumor in human body, artificial joints, bone plates and screws made of titanium and titanium alloys have been widely used in clinic. It is also used for hip joint (including femoral head), knee joint, elbow joint, metacarpophalangeal joint, artificial heart (heart valve), artificial implant, artificial vertebral body (spinal orthosis), housing of cardiac pacemaker, interphalangeal joint, mandible, and titanium mesh in cranium reconstruction.
