Excellent performance of titanium

Excellent performance of titanium

1. Low elastic modulus

The elastic modulus of titanium is 106.4GMPa at room temperature, 57% of that of steel.

2. Good heat resistance

The new titanium alloy can be used for a long time at 600 ℃ or higher.

3. Low density and high specific strength

The density of titanium metal is 4.51g/cm3, which is higher than that of aluminum and lower than that of steel, copper and nickel, but its specific strength is the first among metals.

4. Non magnetic and non-toxic

Titanium is a non-magnetic metal, which will not be magnetized in a large magnetic field. It is non-toxic and has good compatibility with human tissues and blood, so it is adopted by the medical community.

5. Strong damping resistance

After being subjected to mechanical and electrical vibration, titanium has the longest vibration attenuation time compared with steel and copper. This property of titanium can be used as tuning fork, vibration element of medical ultrasonic mill and vibration film of advanced sound speaker.

6. Good heat exchange performance

Although the thermal conductivity of titanium metal is lower than that of carbon steel and copper, due to its excellent corrosion resistance, its wall thickness can be greatly reduced. In addition, the heat transfer mode between the surface and steam is drop condensation, which reduces the heat group. The thermal resistance can also be reduced without scaling on the surface, which significantly improves the heat transfer performance of titanium.

7. The tensile strength is close to its yield strength

This property of titanium shows that its yield strength ratio (tensile strength/yield strength) is high, indicating that the plastic deformation of titanium metal is poor during forming. Due to the large ratio of yield limit to elastic modulus of titanium, the resilience of titanium during molding is large.

8. Suction performance

Titanium is a very active metal, which can react with many elements and compounds at high temperatures. Titanium gas absorption mainly refers to the reaction with carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen at high temperature.

9. Corrosion resistance

Titanium is a very active metal, its equilibrium potential is very low, and its thermodynamic corrosion tendency in the medium is large. But in fact, titanium is very stable in many media, for example, titanium is corrosion resistant in oxidizing, neutral and weak reducing media. This is because titanium has a great affinity with oxygen. In the air or oxygen containing medium, a dense, strong adhesion and inert oxide film is formed on the titanium surface, which protects the titanium matrix from corrosion.

10. Good low-temperature resistance

Low temperature titanium alloys represented by titanium alloys TA7 (Ti-5Al-2.5Sn), TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V) and Ti-2.5Zr-1.5Mo increase their strength with decreasing temperature, but their plasticity changes little. It can maintain good ductility and toughness at - 196-253 ℃ and avoid cold brittleness of metal. It is an ideal material for cryogenic vessels, tanks and other equipment.
